We’re expanding in California — and beyond! — with the support of The Blue Venture Fund, Brand Foundry Ventures, and other seed investors

Carine Carmy is the Co-Founder and CEO of Origin.

I’m elated to announce that Origin is expanding with two beautiful new California locations: our first Bay Area location in San Francisco, and our second Los Angeles location in West Hollywood.

When we first opened our doors to Origin Brentwood last summer, I never imagined we’d be expanding with two new locations within the year. Origin’s spaces are specifically designed to tackle systemically overlooked health issues that affect women throughout their lives, particularly around pregnancy, postpartum, menopause, and sexual health. These treatable issues impact 1 in 3 women (that’s 40 million) in the U.S. — which is why we’re growing so quickly.

SF and Weho officially open today, April 13, 2021, for all your pelvic floor and full body needs. We will continue to offer our hybrid model of in-person and virtual PT sessions, covered by insurance, in addition to at-home educational content and community events.

If you stop by our West Hollywood location, keep an eye out for the incredible Anna McMaster, PT DPT, PRPC, who will lead this location and has been part of the Origin family for several years. In San Francisco, say hello to our Bay Area Clinical Director, Liz Miracle, MSPT, WCS, who will also be joining Origin’s leadership team as Head of Clinical Quality and Talent. In addition to over 15 years of experience in pelvic floor physical therapy, Liz is an assistant clinical professor for UCSF’s Graduate Program in Physical Therapy and helped to write the book (literally) for the American Physical Therapy Association’s Women’s Health curriculum. You can meet the rest of the expert clinicians joining us here.

It is humbling and surreal to be opening two new clinics after the rollercoaster that was 2020. Just a year ago, California shut down for the first time due to COVID, and it seemed like we might have to put our vision on hold. But we hunkered down, motivated by our patients’ clear needs, accelerated the launch of our virtual care program in California, New York and Texas (which is now being used by more than half of our patients!), and ensured the continuity of care for our patients, thanks to the incredible dedication of our team and the trust of our community.

As the saying goes, it takes a village! We are grateful for our investment partners who are helping us accelerate our mission. We recently raised a seed funding round led by Brand Foundry Ventures — whose portfolio includes Allbirds, Harry’s, Lola, Peloton, The Wonder and Warby Parker — and The Blue Venture Fund, the corporate venture fund of the 35 Blue Cross Blue Shield entities, and includes investments from Founders Factory New York (Johnson & Johnson Innovation), Steel Sky Ventures, Springbank Collective, and Pipeline Capital Partners. In addition, we welcome angel investors Toyin Ajayi, Chief Health Officer and Co-founder at Cityblock Health; Sharon Knight, former President at One Medical; Ashley Mayer, VP of Communications at Glossier; Jaclyn Rice Nelson, Co-founder at TribeAI; and several others.

This is just the beginning‍

If you’ve been following our journey, you know that the problem we’re tackling is huge and that our healthcare system is failing women. If there were a health issue affecting 1 in 3 men in America, there would be a practice like ours on every corner. Instead, millions of women are suffering silently with extremely common and treatable health issues, and it costs our health system billions of dollars each year. If they do see a doctor — or a dozen, in my case — they are either told to “deal with it”or recommended invasive procedures. Our vision is to elevate the standard of care for women, and to end the cycle of minimizing and ignoring female pain.

Over the next few years, Origin will go national with virtual and physical presences across the country so that we can offer our care to every single woman in the U.S. Our goal is to partner with the best experts in the country, so if you’re interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you! Together, we’ll normalize the full spectrum of care that women need.
